On May 31, 2026, an article highlighted concerns regarding President Donald Trump’s health evaluations at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. This situation underscores a broader issue that affects not just one president or political party.

Having concluded a career stretching over 25 years in the Navy Medical Corps, I served as the attending physician to Congress. My experiences have instilled immense respect for military medicine. However, challenges arise when those assessing a president’s health are active-duty officers aligned with the patient’s chain of command.
