In southern Lebanon, a boy observes the destruction caused by an Israeli airstrike from the damaged Jabal Amel Hospital in Tyre. This scene unfolds as diplomatic tensions rise.
Iran Halts Talks with the U.S.
Iran announced it would cease all communication with the United States unless Israel ends its military actions in southern Lebanon. The Iranian news agency, Tasnim, reported that ongoing Israeli military actions had violated the ceasefire agreement. The Iranian negotiating team has halted talks and the exchange of texts through mediators in response to these developments.
Iran demands an end to the military operations in Gaza and Lebanon, alongside a total Israeli withdrawal from occupied Lebanese areas. There is no immediate confirmation from Iranian officials regarding the suspension of diplomatic messages, typically relayed through Pakistan.
Warning from Israel’s Military
Israel’s military warned residents in the southern suburb of Dahiyeh, a Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut, to evacuate in anticipation of planned airstrikes. However, no attacks had been initiated hours after the warning.
President Trump’s Statements
President Trump addressed the situation via Truth Social. He confirmed discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Hezbollah through intermediaries, stating both parties had pledged to cease hostilities. Trump emphasized that no troops would advance toward Beirut and ongoing talks with Iran continued at a rapid pace.
Netanyahu, however, maintained a firm stance. He reiterated Israel’s commitment to striking terrorist targets if Hezbollah continues attacks on Israeli cities and citizens.
Impact on Global Oil Supply
Trump faces increasing pressure to resolve the conflict contributing to the Strait of Hormuz’s prolonged closure. This strategic waterway, previously responsible for a fifth of global oil supply, has experienced a halt in activity due to U.S. and Iranian blockades, causing a surge in global oil prices.
Despite Trump’s optimistic remarks about a potential agreement with Iran, the proposed 60-day ceasefire extension and framework for peace talks await his approval. Meanwhile, Israeli military activities have expanded their control over southern Lebanon, displacing over a million individuals.
Situation in Gaza
Alongside actions in Lebanon, Israel has intensified airstrikes in Gaza, targeting Hamas militants. However, these operations have resulted in civilian casualties and expanded Israeli-controlled territory in Gaza. Israel’s occupation has grown from half to 60% of Gaza’s territory, with plans to increase that hold further.
