On Memorial Day, May 25, after Governor Sherrill departed, a standoff ensued between immigration agents and protesters blocking an entrance. Agents resorted to firing pepper balls and spray at those who, according to officials, refused to disperse. Senator Andy Kim, also a Democrat, was among those affected by the confrontation.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents began to forcibly remove demonstrators obstructing the entrance.
