FIFA has announced a ban on refillable water bottles for the upcoming 2026 World Cup. This change is part of a list of prohibited items detailed in the tournament’s official code of conduct. The regulation applies to all stadiums in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marking a departure from previous tournaments where sealed drinks might have been allowed.
According to tournament organizers, the banning of refillable bottles aims to enhance safety and streamline security procedures. However, this decision will likely affect fans, who will now have to depend on stadium concessions for beverages. There are growing concerns about the potential costs and availability, especially considering matches that may occur in high-temperature conditions.
A FIFA spokesperson commented, “FIFA is dedicated to ensuring the health and safety of everyone involved, including players, referees, fans, volunteers, and staff. The decision to ban refillable bottles is to minimize risks and prevent injuries among attendees.”
Among the banned items are also containers and large bags, as FIFA implements stricter stadium policies ahead of the expanded tournament.
