PEORIA — In an impressive state semifinal clash at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex, junior second baseman Devin Hill led Mundelein with a compelling performance. Hill went 2-for-4, driving in three RBIs that propelled Mundelein to a resounding 13-3 victory over Oswego, the defending Class 4A champions, on Friday.
Hill’s hits were instrumental in establishing an early advantage. He hit a single that scored a run in the first inning, followed by a two-run single in the third inning. These contributions helped the Mustangs build an 8-0 lead against the Panthers. Mundelein, now with a record of 23-5, is set to face Lincoln-Way West, who sits at 29-7, in the state championship game scheduled for Saturday at 4:45 p.m.
Senior center fielder Kieley Tomas supported the effort with three hits and three RBIs. Adding to Mundelein’s robust offense, junior shortstop Taylor Pyke contributed two hits and two RBIs.
On the mound, senior ace Shae Johnson showcased her skills despite previous challenges. After guiding Mundelein to the state semifinals in 2024, Johnson faced a setback with a shoulder injury. She overcame adversity, yielding three runs on six hits with one walk, while striking out nine.
The story is developing and will be updated with more details.
