Beastie Boys alumnus Mike D will debut his solo album titled “Thank You” on August 28. This release, part of his Mike D 5D project, is the first full-length album from a Beastie Boys member since 2011’s “Hot Sauce Committee Part 2.” Fans have awaited this moment for years.
What can fans anticipate from the album? According to a press statement made available to Newsweek, “Thank You” features “dozen servings of sonically inventive post-electronic grooves and hypnotic hooks.” The album promises Mike D’s distinctive voice guiding listeners through an auditory experience that defies traditional categorization.
Alongside the album announcement, Mike D also released a visualizer for “True Colors,” one of the songs from the album, which is currently available for streaming.
Recording for “Thank You” began with what is described as “experimental recording sessions” at Mike D’s home studio. Initially, his sons Skyler and Davis joined these sessions, and as the project developed, more contributors participated. The album includes colorful artwork created by Can Can Press, Thad Higa, and Charles Deroyan.
“It’s been so much fun making this music with people I love and appreciate,” Mike D expressed regarding the new album. “I hope it’s fun for listeners and not taken too seriously, especially given the current world, which often undervalues art, feelings, compassion, empathy, and equality.”
The involvement of his family in this project highlights a personal touch, ensuring the continued legacy of the Beastie Boys through Mike D’s innovative work.
