Regina Wallace-Jones, the CEO of ActBlue, plans to invoke her Fifth Amendment rights during her testimony before a House committee. This decision follows reports that she might have misled Congress about the organization’s process for vetting foreign donations. Wallace-Jones expressed her intentions in an opinion piece for The Washington Post, indicating her unwillingness to answer the committee’s questions.
The Republican-led House Administration Committee is investigating ActBlue’s operations, focusing on its handling of foreign contributions. This inquiry arose after The New York Times revealed that Wallace-Jones had been warned by ActBlue’s lawyers about potential misinformation provided to Congress.
ActBlue, a major Democratic fund-raising platform, processed nearly $1.8 billion in donations from 52 million contributions in 2025. The platform’s extensive donor database supports thousands of candidates and groups. According to federal election laws, foreign citizens or non-permanent residents are prohibited from donating directly to federal candidates or political action committees.
Wallace-Jones argues that invoking her constitutional rights is a necessary response to what she terms as harassment rather than legitimate oversight. She maintains that the proceedings target a political opponent’s fund-raising activities.
