Christopher Nolan attended the Oscars on March 10, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. On Tuesday, the Hollywood directors reached a tentative four-year contract with studios and streaming platforms. The agreement was reached between the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) after four weeks of discussions.
This marks the first negotiation under the leadership of Christopher Nolan, who became DGA President in September. The contract aligns with other recent agreements made by unions for writers and actors, which also span four years. These longer-term agreements, compared to the usual three-year contracts, suggest potential for ongoing labor peace in the industry amid various challenges.
The new collective bargaining agreement is pending approval by the guild’s national board. The DGA indicated no details will be disclosed until approval. Subsequent ratification by guild members is also required. Typically, agreements receive endorsement at both these stages.
The prior contract for directors was due to expire on June 30. The AMPTP expressed satisfaction in reaching a fair agreement that aims to foster a stable and successful entertainment sector.
