Ariana Grande has achieved another milestone with her new single, “Hate That I Made You Love Me.” The song is her 10th track to reach the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and the eighth to debut at number one. Grande is preparing to release her eighth album, Petal, and maintains an impressive record: Every first single from her albums has debuted in the Hot 100’s top 10, with the last four reaching number one.
The single’s success is significantly driven by sales, particularly 55,000 digital downloads across multiple mixes. Max Martin, known for producing numerous hit songs, co-wrote and co-produced the track. Martin’s work history includes producing an all-time record of 28 number-one singles, surpassing George Martin of The Beatles. As a songwriter, Max Martin is nearing a remarkable record with 30 number-one singles, closely following Paul McCartney’s 32.
Elsewhere on the Billboard charts, Drake’s album ICEMAN remains at number one on the Billboard 200 for the third consecutive week. Despite this, other recent Drake releases are sliding down. His albums HABIBTI and MAID OF HONOUR have dropped to numbers 10 and 18, respectively.
Paul McCartney continues to make an impact at age 83. His latest solo album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane, debuts at number five. McCartney is also featured on Michael Jackson’s Thriller, ranked at number six. Jackson’s Number Ones, a greatest-hits collection, is positioned at number seven.
In addition, the K-pop group aespa debuts with LEMONADE at number nine, buoyed by 20 CD editions. Moreover, new albums from Shinedown, Latto, and Boards of Canada also enter the chart.
While Ariana Grande leads the Hot 100 with her single, other artists like Ella Langley and Drake continue to perform strongly. Olivia Dean and Olivia Rodrigo have secured two tracks each in the top 15. Rodrigo is set to release her album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, and Taylor Swift is poised for a potential chart-topping run with her Toy Story 5 song, “I Knew It, I Knew You.” Swift’s strategic release aims for dominance in the upcoming weeks.
A new wave of interest surrounds Michael Jackson following the release of the biopic Michael. While established hits like “Billie Jean” continue to chart, “Chicago,” a reworked outtake from Xscape, gains unexpected traction. Originally recorded in 1999, “Chicago” has entered the Hot 100 due to strong streaming and viral success on TikTok. The track reaches number 26, marking a new achievement for Jackson. He’s the first artist to debut a song in the Hot 100 in every decade since the 1970s.
