The California Highway Patrol closed all northbound lanes of the 101 freeway approaching downtown Los Angeles in Boyle Heights on Thursday morning due to police activity in the area.
Traffic was obstructed north of 4th Street starting just before 9 a.m., leading to significant congestion. According to a CHP log, drivers were being rerouted from 4th Street as the investigation proceeded.
KTLA reported that an officer-involved shooting on the freeway resulted in one person being hospitalized. CHP officials did not provide details about the incident or the SigAlert, and a department spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Video footage from KTLA displayed crime scene tape on the freeway with multiple patrol cars present. Traffic was heavily congested for several miles.
The police response began around 7:30 a.m., and the SigAlert for all northbound lanes was issued at 8:55 a.m., as noted in CHP logs.
