Leslie Kimbell’s Play Returns
Leslie Kimbell brings back a beloved character in “The Miss Magnolia Senior Citizen Beauty Pageant.” The production, by Footlight Players at 1705 Franklin St. in Michigan City, runs from June 11 to 14. Showtimes are at 7 p.m. from Thursday to Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Directed by Leslie Evans, the play sees Martha Parcell convinced she’s poised to win the pageant. However, Beatrice, Eaddy, Imogene, and Maude have their own schemes. The play features a tambourine-playing squirrel, a Christmas-loving senior, dueling Elvis impersonators, and mishaps with spray tanning. Festivities at Live in the Ville Festival
The Hessville Chamber of Commerce presents “Live in the Ville” festival on June 12 and 13 at Hessville Park. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and offers free admission. Entertainment includes music by Dick Diamond and the Dusters at 7 p.m. on Friday and Chronic Flannel at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Other activities include magic shows, face painting, food trucks, live wrestling, sword swallowing, dancing, and a parade of illuminated inflatable characters.
Book Launch and Art Exhibit
Author Leena J. Byrd launched her book “The Beauty of Flight” at a March event at Journeyman Distillery. Her art exhibit will be showcased at the Artists Guild of Valparaiso in June. The closing reception for “The Birds of the Heir” exhibition is scheduled for June 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. The free event features artists who have created bird-themed artworks inspired by Byrd’s literary themes. Buddy Holly Tribute Concert
Zachary Stevenson will perform at the Theatre at the Center for a Father’s Day tribute to Buddy Holly. The concert will showcase hits like “That’ll Be the Day” and “Peggy Sue.” Stevenson captivates audiences with his portrayal of Holly, complete with signature dance moves. The concert has a ticket price of $40, with the option of adding a Champagne Brunch for $35.
