The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) had an impressive first half in their World Cup opener against Paraguay. However, fans were concerned when Christian Pulisic, a star player, did not return for the second half.
Pulisic, from Hershey, Pennsylvania, plays for AC Milan. He assisted on the United States’ second goal scored by Folarin Balogun and was a prominent figure in the first half of the game.
When the team appeared for the second half, it was observed that Sebastian Berhalter replaced Pulisic. Berhalter is the son of former USMNT player and coach Gregg Berhalter.
The substitution was shown on FOX Sports, but no reason for Pulisic’s removal was initially given.
Pulisic had apparently told family members in the stands he was fine. Following the United States’ 4-1 victory, head coach Mauricio Pochettino explained the situation. According to Tom Bogert from The Athletic, Pochettino noted that Pulisic had experienced calf tightness due to a kick and was removed as a precaution.
Concerns from fans are understandable, given Pulisic’s recent injury history. He missed last summer’s Gold Cup to recuperate from playing 50 matches with AC Milan. Additionally, he faced multiple injuries the following season, including a lower-back issue reported by ESPN.
With Pulisic being a vital player for the USMNT, his absence in the second half was significant. Despite Pochettino’s reassurance, American fans may remain anxious until Pulisic returns to play fully fit.
