Controversial Quarantine Decision at Nebraska Medical Center

Angela Perryman, a passenger from a cruise ship, remains quarantined at a facility in Nebraska after exposure to hantavirus in early May. Although others have been allowed to return home under local health monitoring, Perryman’s situation differs.

On Monday, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. signed an order to continue her quarantine. This decision goes against the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC advised that she could continue her quarantine at home.

Despite testing negative and reporting no symptoms, Perryman shared her frustration over the decision. She was informed of Kennedy’s order through a document slipped under her door.

Dr. Michael Bell, a quarantine medical reviewer from the CDC, recommended that Perryman be allowed to complete her quarantine at home. He suggested daily remote symptom checks and 24-hour support if necessary. Dr. Bell believes this approach is sufficient to safeguard public health.
