Goodyear Blimp Crash in Coral Springs
On June 16, 2005, a severe storm caused the Goodyear blimp, known as Stars and Stripes, to crash at the Coral Springs industrial park located on Sample Road. This blimp was a familiar sight at South Florida sporting events.
Fortunately, no one suffered injuries during the incident, which occurred near the Sawgrass Expressway. Chief John Whalen of the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department remarked that it was one of the most significant events to happen in Coral Springs at the time.
