Chicago Police Respond to Fatal Shooting in Uptown Neighborhood

An armed suspect fatally shot a 63-year-old man on Monday night in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood and was later shot by police after pointing a weapon at them during a chase. This incident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. when officers responded to reports of gunfire.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was in an argument with a known individual who then drew a weapon and fired, hitting the victim multiple times. The injured man was transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect fled north along the 4800 block of Clark Street, prompting a foot chase. The pursuit concluded on Argyle Street where the suspect aimed his weapon at the pursuing officers. Police responded by shooting the suspect and administering medical aid at the scene.

The suspect was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston and is reported to be in critical condition. A firearm was found at the scene of the incident.

Three officers involved in this event were hospitalized for observation. The Chicago police’s Investigative Response Team and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability have been notified. The officers involved in the shooting will serve at least 30 days on routine administrative duty.
