The FBI announced on Tuesday that they prevented an alleged threat aimed at the UFC Freedom 250 event, which was set to take place at the White House on Sunday. The FBI director, Kash Patel, detailed the agency’s efforts in a multi-state operation that began on June 10, after they uncovered the potential threat.
Patel communicated on X that several people were detained and stated that plans for the alleged attacks were effectively stopped. According to Fox News Digital, which cited anonymous sources, five people are currently in custody, and 23 have been identified as part of the suspected network.
The alleged conspiracy reportedly involved using drones loaded with explosives to target buildings near the event. Additionally, the plotters had plans to breach the White House gate.
Among the attendees at the event were President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, other members of the Trump family, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Business leaders such as UFC CEO Dana White and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg were also present.
Patel emphasized the success of the investigative efforts on X, saying, “On June 10, the FBI and our law enforcement partners became aware of a potential threat to the UFC America 250 event in Washington, D.C. The threat involved individuals from outside the National Capital Region. Thanks to the swift action of the FBI, our partners, and the Department of Justice, during a multi-state operation, multiple individuals are now in custody, and the allegedly planned attacks were stopped cold.”
He further praised the team’s work, noting, “The result represented exemplary investigative work, but it is standard for this law enforcement team. We are dedicated to detecting, responding to, and prosecuting those who pose a threat to American citizens, especially at major events like the historic UFC 250 fight. This is exactly what we accomplished here. I want to commend our dedicated agents and partners. Our work continues, and we will update the public as information becomes available.”
An FBI spokesperson redirected inquiries to Patel’s statement, adding, “We have nothing additional at this time.”
This situation is still developing, with more updates promised.
