Stevenson outside hitter Abby Inman has emerged as one of the top players in Lake County. Unfulfilled by past achievements, Inman devoted time to rigorous preparation for her senior season. ‘The moment my junior year concluded, I was back at my school gym, utilizing its extensive facilities,’ she shared. ‘I engaged in private coaching sessions with instructors from Sky High volleyball club and made the elite team, which was instrumental for my senior season.’ Standing at 5-foot-11, Inman demonstrated clear improvement over the summer, as noted by Stevenson coach Tim Crow. ‘She dominated summer league play and stood out as one of the best on the court,’ Crow said.
A dominant Inman presents a substantial advantage to the Patriots (24-13, 6-1). Previously, they secured second place in the North Suburban Conference and reached the Class 4A sectional semifinals. Last season, she achieved 328 kills and 270 digs, earning all-conference honors and an all-state honorable mention. Serving as team captain for the first time, she gained vital experience for her third varsity season. Inman explained, ‘I was familiar with practice routines and understood the team’s needs during challenging times. Leading on the court allowed me to offer encouragement and necessary guidance.’
“Being a leader isn’t about being the loudest or the best, but about assisting others to succeed,”Inman stated.
Senior right-side hitter Audri Linnane emphasized Inman’s reliability. ‘Abigail delivers during pressure moments,’ Linnane remarked. ‘She plays aggressively and smartly; her improved power and strategic placement make her a key player.’ Inman’s dedication extends beyond personal performance; she values team dynamics greatly. Initially a tennis player for five years, she transitioned to volleyball in seventh grade. ‘I loved volleyball’s team aspect,’ Inman noted. ‘Tennis is solo, and I always desired the camaraderie of a big team, which I’ve found in volleyball.’
Beginning on Stevenson’s freshman A team, she adapted, eventually becoming a six-rotation outside hitter. ‘My early focus was power-hitting,’ she said. ‘However, in competitive school settings, winning became the priority. I began using tip and roll shots more strategically to secure rally victories.’
Even as a freshman, Inman displayed notable qualities that caught Coach Crow’s attention. ‘Abby was impressive from her freshman year,’ Crow commented. ‘Her focus was evident then and remains strong on the court.’
This consistent dedication is why Inman continues to excel. ‘Abby has made substantial improvements yearly,’ Crow added. ‘She currently looks fantastic.’
