Senior national correspondent Rich Edson reports from Belleville, Michigan. Progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed has won the Democratic Senate primary, defeating Haley Stevens by a narrow margin.
Democratic Socialists of America Connection
Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., addresses El-Sayed’s alignment with the Democratic Socialists of America platform. This includes policies on healthcare and border issues.
Soros-Linked Financial Influence
Tens of millions of dollars tied to George Soros are flowing into Democratic campaigns and groups as Election Day nears. Campaign finance records indicate significant contributions from Soros-linked committees.
By late June, Democracy PAC and Democracy PAC II, funded by Soros, have provided over $40 million to support Democratic allies. Major beneficiaries include the Senate Majority PAC, House Majority PAC, and J Street Action Fund.
El-Sayed’s Campaign and Soros Funding
El-Sayed, focused on reducing money in politics, is indirectly benefiting from Soros-linked contributions via Democratic groups in Michigan. Despite advocating against substantial political donations, his campaign has not commented on these indirect benefits.
Senate Majority PAC, recipient of $9 million from Soros-funded Democracy PAC, pledged $30 million to aid El-Sayed’s campaign.
Criticism of Financing Practices
Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers’ spokesperson, Alyssa Brouillet, accuses El-Sayed of inconsistency. She claims he criticizes large contributions while benefiting from them.
Rogers is portrayed as fighting against Big Pharma and advocating for gas tax suspension to lower costs for families.
Soros Family’s Broad Political Engagement
Contributions from Soros-backed entities extend beyond Senate races. Justice & Public Safety PAC, aimed at electing progressive prosecutors, has received close to $2 million.
Soros-funded efforts aim to reduce incarceration, reform bail practices, and address systemic racism in law enforcement. These initiatives have faced criticism from conservatives.
Other Beneficiaries and Future Spending
The Soros family has supported various groups in the 2026 cycle, including the League of Conservation Voters Action Fund and Fair Fight, a Georgia-based voter mobilization group.
Political committees affiliated with Soros have provided financial backing to Democratic Governor candidates like Josh Shapiro in Pennsylvania and Abigail Spanberger in Virginia.
The full scope of Soros family political activities will emerge in future campaign finance reports, given their usage of 501(c)(4) nonprofits, which disclose finances annually.
