Jewish actor Adam Brody has added his voice to the growing number of progressive celebrities criticizing Israel’s actions in Gaza, labeling the situation as “genocide.” His comments also highlight a shift in political dynamics within Hollywood, which Brody believes has become more conservative during the presidency of Donald Trump.
Brody, known for his role as a rabbi in Netflix’s romantic comedy series “Nobody Wants This,” shared his thoughts during an interview with GQ Magazine. In addition to discussing his political activism and involvement with Swing Left, a progressive organization, Brody expressed his private concerns about the Middle East conflict. He stated, “Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine.”
The actor expressed hope that a change in administration could lead to improved policies addressing the crisis. He mentioned, “I’m hopeful that another administration can really do some good and correct some of these policies that are helping that situation be as awful as it is.”
Brody’s remarks are similar to those made by other celebrities, including actor Mark Ruffalo and rapper Macklemore, who have described the Israel-Hamas conflict as “genocide.” Despite several celebrities voicing criticism against Israel’s actions, Brody noted a decline in political activism within Hollywood. He explained that after Trump’s first election win, activism surged. However, during Trump’s second term, the political climate shifted, with corporations supporting him more prominently.
Brody remarked, “The second time, the presidency was more powerful… People had to risk more to get in front of it. It just felt like the mood wasn’t there. The country decided this is the way it wants to go.” As the upcoming election approaches, he feels a renewed sense of political engagement.
Brody also suggested that Hollywood has become more “outspokenly” conservative during Trump’s tenure, attributing this change to factors like groupthink and individual well-being. Fox News Digital reached out to Brody’s representatives for a comment but did not receive an immediate response.
The founder of “Hollywood in Toto,” Christian Toto, responded to Brody’s comments, stating that while the environment for conservatives in Hollywood has slightly improved, issues like groupthink and backstage bullying remain prevalent. Toto added that Hollywood activism is beginning to reemerge, noting that Brody’s open expression of leftist views is advantageous to his career in the current climate.
