A professor from St. Bonaventure University in New York faced criticism after posting inflammatory comments about Sen. Lindsey Graham’s death on social media, only to retract the statement hours later. The incident has sparked discussions on the nature of political discourse on college campuses.

The social media account, believed to belong to political science professor Ibrahim Zabad, initially posted a message late Saturday celebrating Graham’s death, using harsh language. According to Campus Reform, the post referenced Graham as a ‘bloodthirsty bigot’ and concluded with ‘Rest in Hell.’ By early Sunday, the post was removed and an apology was issued acknowledging the disrespect and lack of compassion expressed in the message.

Graham, a 71-year-old Republican senator from South Carolina, passed away Saturday. An initial autopsy suggests he died from aortic dissection due to cardiovascular disease, a diagnosis that shocked his colleagues in Washington due to his active political role.

St. Bonaventure University responded by stating that Zabad’s post did not align with the institution’s mission and values. They pledged to address the matter to ensure alignment with Franciscan principles.

A statement from Graham’s office indicated that his death certificate remains pending as further tests are needed to officially determine the cause and manner of death.
