Bison Attack in Yellowstone Leaves Man Hospitalized

A man was hospitalized after a bull bison, appearing agitated, threw him approximately eight feet into the air near a campground road.

Photographer Mike MacLeod captured the moment at Yellowstone National Park when the bison attacked. The incident, linked to the bison’s heightened testosterone levels at the start of mating season, occurred on a Friday night at Bridge Bay Campground near Yellowstone Lake, Wyoming.

The victim, Carl Isom-McDaniel, who is active on community boards in Washington State, sustained multiple broken bones. The attack happened around 8:30 p.m. as the campground was busy with tourists. Sunset was still an hour away, and the area had many small recreational vehicles and tents.

The bison roamed the campground charging at campers. First, it targeted a group of teenage boys who managed to scatter. MacLeod, based in Bozeman, Montana, about 130 miles away, reported on the event.
