Caitlin Clark is drawing viewers to WNBA games like never before. Her recent game with the Indiana Fever against Angel Reese’s Atlanta Dream attracted 2.6 million viewers on ESPN. This made it the most-watched WNBA game in cable TV history. The viewership peaked at 4 million as the game went into overtime.
The rivalry between Clark and Reese began during the 2023 NCAA women’s national championship game when Reese’s LSU team won against Clark’s Iowa. This rivalry has continued to captivate audiences, contributing to high viewership numbers.
In this thrilling game, Indiana overcame an eight-point deficit to win 95-91 in overtime. Clark scored 26 points and assisted nine times. Meanwhile, Reese contributed 15 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists. Clark secured the win with crucial free throws, and although Reese had some struggles, her presence added to the game’s allure.
The 2.6 million viewers for this game surpassed the previous record of 2.3 million set when Clark’s Fever faced Reese’s former team, the Chicago Sky, in June 2024. Her WNBA debut against the Connecticut Sun also garnered substantial attention with 2.11 million viewers.
Recently, another Fever game against the New York Liberty drew 2 million viewers, ranking third overall for regular-season games on cable. Following that, a game between Portland and Phoenix, where Diana Taurasi’s jersey was retired, saw 1.4 million viewers without Indiana’s involvement.
Across 25 games, WNBA broadcasts on ESPN average 1.4 million viewers, marking a 16% increase from the previous year. This rise highlights Clark’s influence on the league’s viewership. When she plays against Reese, an additional layer of competition emerges, attracting even more casual fans.
The consistent high ratings attributed to Caitlin Clark are now a well-documented phenomenon, evident with each new data release.
