California Actor Faces 24 Felony Charges in Child Sexual Abuse Case

An actor and producer from California, Shane Ryan Gledhill, 46, is facing 24 felony charges related to an alleged pattern of child sexual abuse. Investigators claim Gledhill used online casting calls to connect with minors over several decades. He was arrested on August 3 after a nearly five-year investigation by Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives.

Gledhill, residing in Lompoc, had collaborated on projects with actors such as Shelley Duvall and Tom Arnold. Initially arrested on 15 charges, the number has increased to 24. His arrest followed allegations from a 17-year-old who contacted authorities in November 2021, reporting suspicious conduct that began when she was 15.

The ongoing investigation has identified nine survivors, all minors at the time of the alleged incidents. In February 2022, detectives conducted a search at Gledhill’s Lompoc residence, seizing thousands of digital files for forensic examination.

Authorities disclosed that Gledhill used online casting calls and film projects to reach aspiring young actors. His booking photo was released, as Gledhill was known to use professional names like ‘Shane Ryan’ and ‘Shane Ryan-Reid,’ potentially complicating recognition of his legal name. Detectives hope the photo will help identify more survivors or witnesses.

Among the charges Gledhill faces are child molestation, rape, forcible sexual assault, contacting minors with intent to commit sexual offenses, possession of child sexual abuse material, and providing harmful matter to minors. His bail is set at $2 million.

Detectives believe Gledhill’s actions may involve additional unidentified survivors, spanning roughly 25 years and potentially affecting individuals beyond California’s Central Coast, including the Los Angeles area and the East Coast.

Gledhill’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 9 at Santa Barbara County Superior Court’s Lompoc division. The investigation continues as authorities seek further information from anyone who may have interacted with Gledhill.
