Carson Beck Shines in Debut with Arizona Cardinals

Rookie quarterback Carson Beck showcased his skills in his first game for the Arizona Cardinals during the preseason Hall of Fame Game. He secured the starting role for this matchup and played through the first half, leading his team on an impressive 96-yard touchdown drive.

After the game, Beck shared his enthusiasm about being back on the field. ‘From the moment you cross the white lines and take the first play, I was ready to go. I barely slept last night, excited for the chance to play football again. It’s something I never take for granted,’ he told reporters.

‘Since the injury and surgery to repair my UCL, I’ve found a lot of gratitude for every opportunity,’ he added. Beck’s journey included multiple seasons at Georgia before transferring to Miami for his final college season, where he led the Hurricanes to the College Football Playoff National Championship.

In his preseason debut, the Cardinals’ third-round pick completed 14 of 19 passes covering 188 yards, including the significant 96-yard drive, and threw a touchdown. Despite being sacked once, he ended the half with a 125.4 quarterback rating.

At halftime, the Cardinals were tied 17-17 with the Panthers. After a scoreless third quarter for Arizona, both teams exchanged scores in the fourth. The Panthers seized victory with an exciting final drive by their undrafted rookie quarterback Haynes King, who scored with a stretch towards the goal line, clinching a 33-30 win.

Beck’s performance was notable, making him a potential starter as the season progresses. Head coach Mike LaFleur expressed satisfaction with Beck’s display. ‘I’m proud of how he played, and it’s an excellent first stepping stone for him,’ LaFleur told reporters.

Despite this, Beck remains third on the depth chart behind Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II. His future role depends on the upcoming games and the coaching staff’s decisions.

The Cardinals’ next preseason game is scheduled for Aug. 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders, followed by a game on Aug. 22 against the Dallas Cowboys. They will conclude their preseason against the Packers on Aug. 28. The regular season kicks off on Sept. 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
