The Kansas City Chiefs have added kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad. This decision has sparked debate due to Tucker’s past suspension and accusations against him.
Tucker faced a 10-game suspension following accusations from 24 women of sexual misconduct during massage sessions. This controversial addition comes as the Chiefs deal with struggles from their current kicker, Harrison Butker.
OutKick’s Craig Carton criticized the decision. He questioned the Chiefs’ willingness to prioritize wins over ethical considerations. “A guy like Justin Tucker—24 different women accused him of inappropriate sexual misconduct,” Carton said. “The NFL suspended him for 10 full games. Is it really win at all costs?”
Carton further expressed disapproval towards the Chiefs’ approaches. He mentioned previous instances involving players with controversial backgrounds. He commented on their seeming disregard for personal conduct as long as players deliver wins.
Reports from The Baltimore Banner in early 2025 involved multiple female therapists accusing Tucker of inappropriate behavior at several spas. Tucker denied these claims, stressing his commitment to professionalism.
Tucker was released by the Ravens in May 2025. Despite the allegations, he wasn’t criminally charged. His situation is compared to Cleveland Browns’ quarterback Deshaun Watson, who also faced suspension over similar allegations.
The Chiefs have a history of signing players with controversial pasts. Incidents included Rashee Rice’s involvement in a crash leading to felony charges, and Kareem Hunt’s domestic altercation caught on video.
On the field, the Chiefs have been successful, leading the AFC West with a 5-1 record. Yet, Butker has struggled, missing five field goals this season. Tucker, though statistically having his worst season in 2024, is still lauded for his career achievements.
