Chili’s Takes on Fast-Food Pricing in Viral Social Media Exchange
Chili’s recently took to social media to comment on rising fast-food prices and received significant attention. An X user, @YellowFlashGuy, shared a photo featuring a Burger King menu. The image showed a Bacon King sandwich meal, which includes french fries and a drink, priced at $18.19. The sandwich alone was priced at $12.99. The user questioned why they would choose fast food over a restaurant, suggesting the latter offers better value and quality.
Chili’s responded emphatically, highlighting their own promotional meal. “Why do y’all let fast food play you like this?” they asked before promoting their Big Crispy Chicken Sandwich 3 for Me meal. This offer includes fries, bottomless chips and salsa, and an unlimited drink for $10.99.
The Bacon King features at Burger King include two quarter-pound beef patties, bacon, American cheese, ketchup, and mayonnaise on a sesame seed bun. While local franchise owners manage most Burger King locations, prices vary by location, the company explains. Both the original post and Chili’s response quickly gained views and positive reactions online.
“OK, I’m going to Chili’s after work,” one user posted. Chili’s responded, “We can’t wait!”
Not all feedback was praise. Some users shared negative experiences, like receiving a medium-rare steak that was undercooked. Chili’s addressed these comments, asking for further feedback to improve service. Most users defended the chain, attributing such incidents to individual staff rather than the brand.
A Chili’s spokesperson shared that the company has been challenging fast-food prices for years. These efforts include launching their Big Crispy Chicken Sandwich in April. According to a recent news release, Chili’s emphasizes value with this offering as part of their 3 for Me platform, starting at $10.99.
In recent studies, many fast-food prices have increased significantly, with major chains raising their rates by 60% from 2014 to 2024. With affordability and convenience remaining top priorities for U.S. diners, 68% say they plan to dine out less often this year. Chili’s focus on value aligns with these preferences, as evidenced by Brinker International’s latest reports. Chili’s reported its 20th consecutive quarter of same-store sales growth, marking a 4% increase in sales.
