Community Mourns After Shooting at In-N-Out Burger in Idaho

The tragic incident at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, resulted in the loss of three lives. The victims included a local man and an employee of the restaurant chain. Authorities named the gunman, a 24-year-old, as the sole assailant but are still investigating his motive.

Victims Remembered

Police have released the identities of the victims: Ashley Garibay, 23, a native of Stockton, California; Dale Schultz, 66, from Salt Lake City; and Christopher Claunch, 59, of Hagerman, Idaho. The community held a vigil in Twin Falls’ park, where many gathered to honor the deceased with candles, roses, and heartfelt messages.

Garibay worked for In-N-Out’s training team and was recognized by her family and colleagues for her vibrant spirit and dedication. Her family fondly described her as an energetic and driven individual.

Claunch, remembered as ‘Toph’ by friends, previously overcame alcohol abuse and dedicated his post-recovery life to aiding others in similar circumstances. Garren Taylor mentioned Claunch’s influence in helping countless individuals.

Dale Schultz was highlighted as a talented artist and beloved member of his community. His wife, Reinette, is recovering from injuries sustained during the incident.

Shooting Details

The In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls opened recently in July, part of the company’s expansion into Idaho. The gunman, identified as Chad Williams, took his own life at the scene. Witnesses described the frightening environment that ensued during the shooting. Several customers and employees sought cover, and others escaped the restaurant when they realized the threat.

An off-duty trooper and a civilian attempted to intervene by firing at the gunman, prompting him to move away from the restaurant.

Among the injured was Steven Pixley, who encountered Williams while riding his motorcycle nearby. Pixley was struck by a bullet, which caused significant damage, temporarily losing the use of three fingers. Despite the injury, his cousin Shane Klaas mentioned Pixley maintains a positive outlook, highlighting his resilience.

A support center has been established for those affected, offering assistance and enabling individuals to retrieve personal belongings left at the scene. The city has lowered flags to half-staff in tribute to the victims.
