Company Shifts Production to China Despite Previous Anti-Offshoring Stance

Eastlake, Ohio — For four decades, Joe Klima followed the same routine, waking up at dawn and traveling from his house on Barbara Drive to a nearby factory. This plant, renowned for crafting high-quality tubas, French horns, and sousaphones, was a staple in this small community, situated northeast of Cleveland.

Recently, the factory’s operations faced a significant shift. In spite of previous calls to halt offshoring by a major donor to the Trump administration, much of its production has been relocated to China.

The shuttering of this facility left many workers reflecting on their years devoted to craftsmanship and the friendships formed along the way. Retired employee Jim Rosciszewski embodied this sentiment, seen embracing former colleagues as they gathered one last time at a local bar following the plant’s final shift on June 30.
