Conor McGregor Discusses Knee Injury After UFC 329
Conor McGregor has disclosed details regarding the injury he sustained during his brief UFC return on July 11 in Las Vegas. After losing by technical knockout to Max Holloway at UFC 329, McGregor described the extent of his injury as ‘quite shocking.’
He shared the update on X, stating, It was ACL and meniscus.
The nature of the injury mirrored a previous incident but affected the opposite leg this time.
McGregor and Holloway previously fought 13 years ago. Since then, McGregor has achieved significant fame in mixed martial arts. Despite the timing, he remains optimistic about his recovery. With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods, it is well within my realm to return by next summer,
McGregor stated. He reported being able to walk unaided and perform exercises without issue, highlighting his positive outlook and discipline.
During the fight, McGregor attempted a jumping roundhouse kick but landed awkwardly, immediately clutching his right knee. Holloway capitalized on McGregor’s compromised state, leading to a quick TKO decision by referee Mike Beltran.
Following the event, McGregor expressed his frustration on X, indicating he was in a ‘dark place’ due to the unexpected injury. Pre-fight footage showed him executing jumping roundhouse kicks competently, underscoring the abruptness of the injury.
McGregor’s UFC record stands at 22-7 post-TKO, but he remains determined to continue his career. He dismissed the notion of ending his fighting journey under such circumstances.
