Three players from the Dallas Cowboys faced fines following their season-opening loss to the New York Giants. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, defensive end Donovan Ezeiruaku, and running back Javonte Williams were fined a total of $33,409, as per the NFL’s accountability report.
Overshown incurred a $9,527 fine for a late hit on Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart with 9:38 left in the first quarter. This unnecessary roughness penalty added 15 yards to the Giants, resulting in a touchdown drive.
Ezeiruaku was fined $11,941 for grabbing the facemask of a Giants player with 2:10 remaining in the fourth quarter. This penalty aided the Giants in managing the clock and securing a 28-20 victory.
Williams received an $11,941 fine for taunting Giants safety Tyler Nubin following a fourth-quarter touchdown. After crossing the goal line, he held the ball toward Nubin, leading to a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that impacted the extra-point attempt. The missed 48-yard kick left Dallas trailing by eight points.
“I don’t know why I did it. It’s just out of character. You don’t got to worry about that no more,” Williams remarked. “The damage is already done. It’s my fault. I’m better than that. I’m a pro.”
The Cowboys concluded the game with nine accepted penalties. The Giants were penalized 11 times, bringing the total penalties between the teams to 20.
