Cristiano Ronaldo achieved a historic milestone on Tuesday by becoming the first player to score in six different World Cup tournaments. In Portugal’s match against Uzbekistan, Ronaldo, at age 41, netted two goals, demonstrating his enduring prowess on the field.
In the sixth minute, João Cancelo provided a cross to Ronaldo, who capitalized with a right-footed shot to open the scoring at 1-0. Ronaldo celebrated the goal with his teammates, reflecting the significance of the achievement.
Ronaldo added another goal in the 39th minute. Receiving a pass from Bruno Fernandes, he scored by placing the ball with precision just inside the near post, increasing the tally to 3-0.
This feat positions Ronaldo as the second-oldest scorer at a World Cup, following Cameroon’s Roger Milla, who was 42 when he scored during the 1994 tournament in the United States.
Critiques followed Ronaldo’s performance in Portugal’s opening match, a 1-1 draw against Congo where he did not score. However, he now shares the record with Lionel Messi for participating in six World Cup tournaments, distinguishing himself by scoring in each. Messi, by contrast, missed scoring in the 2010 World Cup.
With these goals, Ronaldo’s total in World Cup tournaments reaches ten. While Messi has accumulated 18 goals following a hat trick against Algeria and a further two goals against Austria, establishing himself as the tournament’s all-time leading scorer.
Tuesday marked Ronaldo’s 230th international appearance, the most in the history of the sport. His career achievements include winning the European Championship with Portugal in 2016, alongside five Champions League victories with Manchester United and Real Madrid.
This World Cup might be Ronaldo’s last, capping an illustrious career representing significant accomplishments and records.
