Police have initiated a death investigation following a fire incident on the city’s Near South Side, where a man was found shot in the head. Authorities responded to a fire in the 1300 block of South Wabash Avenue shortly after 5 p.m.
Inside a building, officers discovered a 33-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. Chicago police reported his condition as critical upon arrival at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The man also had a neck laceration and smoke inhalation injuries.
The individual later passed away at the hospital. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday to determine the cause of death. Police recovered a weapon from the scene, but there is no information on potential suspects as Belmont Area detectives continue their investigation.
