A friend of Brian Hooker has shared a recorded phone call that may challenge his account of the events surrounding the disappearance of his wife, Lynette Hooker, in the Bahamas.

Contradictory Accounts

Brian Hooker reported to authorities that rough waters caused Lynette to fall off their dinghy after leaving Hope Town, Bahamas, on April 4. He claimed to have paddled to shore, reaching Marsh Harbour the next morning. However, a recorded conversation suggests he might have been in the water with Lynette, contrary to his statement of remaining in the dinghy.

Brian and Lynette lived on their sailboat, Soulmate, in retirement, often sailing around the U.S. and Caribbean, according to social media. Briann Hooker contacted fellow boater Blaine Stevenson two days after Lynette’s disappearance. Stevenson recounted that the call suggested Brian was in the water, not exclusively in the dinghy.

Inconsistent Stories

On the call, Brian mentioned he bailed water from the dinghy numerous times and struggled with the waves. He also described attempts to rescue Lynette, including throwing a flotation cushion. However, maritime law expert Kenneth Engerrand points out inconsistencies in Brian’s story, indicating possible fabrication.

Investigation Developments

GPS data from Brian’s phone led U.S. Coast Guard investigators to renew their search for Lynette, which concluded after four days. The Coast Guard took possession of the dinghy. Discrepancies in Brian’s account prompted U.S. authorities, with Bahamian consent, to search new waters in the Sea of Abaco. A U.S. official states the case is now treated as a homicide investigation.
