Emergency teams are addressing a significant incident at Miami International Airport. An Amazon cargo plane overran the runway and collided with several vehicles before catching fire. This occurred around 2 p.m. local time. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, and airport officials have provided information to Fox News Digital.
Prime Air flight 7598 overshot the diagonal runway and is currently disabled at the airport’s northwest end. According to fire officials, the plane caught fire following the crash. Over 60 fire units responded to the scene, which involves multiple patients.
“Units arrived to find an airplane that had caught on fire as a result of this crash, with heavy flames and smoke showing. Firefighters are working on extinguishing the fire and assessing patients,” the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue stated on social media.
Authorities have yet to release specific information regarding injuries or fatalities. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the incident during the plane’s landing attempt but didn’t provide further details.
“We can confirm that an Amazon Air plane operated by 21 Air experienced an incident while attempting to land at Miami International Airport today,” stated Amazon. “This is a fast-moving situation, and we’re still gathering details. We’re working closely with local authorities to understand exactly what happened. Right now, our absolute priority is the safety, well-being, and care of everyone involved. We’re doing everything we can to support those affected.”
The Boeing 767-300, designated as 21 Air Flight 7598, had departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The county’s emergency records indicate the call was made around 1:55 p.m.
The FAA’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center has instituted a ground stop at Miami International, effective until at least 4:30 p.m. Airport authorities confirmed that all runways and taxiways are currently closed as of 3:00 p.m.
An investigation by the FAA into the crash is forthcoming. Additionally, Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy mentioned that first responders are evaluating the situation.
“We’ve issued a full ground stop at Miami International while first responders assess the scene after an Amazon cargo plane overran the runway. If you’re traveling through the area, please expect significant delays and potential cancellations,” he posted on social media.
