Two men lost their lives outside a gay bar named Venture-N in Tucson, Arizona, early Monday morning. Police are investigating this incident as a potential hate crime.
The shooter confronted and shot the victims in the bar’s parking lot. Authorities identified the deceased as Vincent Anthony Siqueiros, 42, and Cameron Davis Capara, 33. Both were declared dead at the location.
The alleged gunman, Ousman Ceesay, 44, was found with gunshot wounds when police arrived around 12:30 a.m. on Monday. He passed away shortly after at a nearby hospital. It remains uncertain if his wounds were self-inflicted.
Police discovered a note on Mr. Ceesay listing multiple L.G.B.T.Q.-friendly businesses he seemed to be targeting. Following the incident, police boosted patrols at L.G.B.T.Q. venues citywide.
Ceesay, who had an address in Oklahoma City, had no significant criminal history except a speeding ticket in 2012. Court records showed he filed for bankruptcy with his ex-wife in 2018. Attempts to reach her were not successful. The bankruptcy filing noted Ceesay’s past employment as an Uber and Lyft driver.
Tucson Mayor Regina Romero condemned the shooting in a video statement, describing it as a “direct and devastating attack on our L.G.B.T.Q. community.” She emphasized that the tragedy highlights ongoing homophobia in the country.
