FBI Charges Noncitizens with Illegal Voting Amid Crackdown
FBI Charges Four Noncitizens in New Jersey
The FBI has charged four noncitizens in New Jersey with illegal voting. This action is part of a broader crackdown by FBI Director Kash Patel on illegal voting activities. Concurrently, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul supports measures against ICE, including preventing police cooperation and permitting lawsuits against federal agents.
Arrest in Louisiana
A lawful permanent resident from Australia, Denise Nataly Migliore, 51, was arrested for allegedly voting illegally in federal elections in Louisiana. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana indicted her on four counts, including making false statements to register to vote and illegal voting.
In October 2022 and October 2024, Migliore knowingly made false claims about her U.S. citizenship to register for federal elections.
In both years, Migliore allegedly voted after falsely certifying her status as a U.S. citizen.
Homeland Security Response
On July 1, Homeland Security Investigations arrested Migliore at the federal courthouse in New Orleans following an investigation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Acting Assistant DHS Secretary of Public Affairs Lauren Bis stated, “This alien from Australia now faces federal charges for falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen and illegally casting ballots in two elections.” She also emphasized the commitment to identifying and prosecuting noncitizens who vote in American elections.
“Our message to aliens who vote in American elections is clear: We will find you, arrest you, and you will face the consequences, including criminal charges and deportation. Only Americans should be electing American leaders.”
Potential Legal Consequences
If convicted, Migliore faces up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
