If you notice smoke rising on Chicago’s South Side, particularly near the Obama Presidential Center on Monday and Tuesday, there is no cause for concern. The Chicago Alerts social media account informed the public about special effects smoke near key locations such as the Obama Center, the University of Chicago campus, and the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. This activity will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days.
The Chicago Film Office clarified that this alert pertains to the filming of an NBC “Chicago Fire” episode. The filming will take place on Dorchester Avenue between 55th Place and 56th Street, featuring a simulated rescue scene. Expect to see heavy plumes of special effects smoke on the rooftop and upper floors of an apartment building on South Dorchester.
The smoke will quickly dissipate, but it may be visible in the nearby areas. “Chicago Fire” is set to return for its 15th season on October 7 on NBC.
