Florida Man Accused in Online Dating Sexual Assault Investigation

Palm Beach County officials urge women to report any encounters with a Florida man, Stephen Hakim, linked to online dating platforms. The request follows a sexual battery case at a Florida hospital involving Hakim, whom a victim met on Hinge. DNA evidence tied him to the attack.

The victim’s toxicology tests revealed sleeping drugs in her system, substances she hadn’t voluntarily consumed. Authorities arrested Hakim from Delray Beach on July 8 on sexual assault charges. He was released on a $25,000 bond after pleading not guilty.

Hakim, 27, allegedly assaulted a woman he met on Hinge. The woman reported the incident, explaining how their conversation moved from the app to texts and video calls. They agreed to a meeting, described as having “no expectations,” the same day.

The woman recounted to deputies that Hakim picked her up late at night intending to visit a bar. Instead, he drove her to his apartment. She described his noticeable speeding in his black Tesla and observed the minimalistic furnishing of his home. They shared four beers and discussed various topics before Hakim offered a massage. It was at that moment she felt unusually tired and immobilized before the assault occurred. She recalled confronting Hakim about the incident, but he denied wrongdoing, exhibiting dismissive behavior.

Hakim’s lawyer publicly denied claims of unconsented actions, yet declined further comments.

Experts advise caution when using dating apps. Megan Cutter, representing the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN), emphasizes awareness of vague profiles and urgently moving conversations off-platform. These actions often represent red flags.

Cutter stresses the importance of maintaining internet safety and protecting personal information. Users should differentiate photos on dating profiles from personal social media to prevent reverse image searches that link back to personal details. Removing metadata from uploaded photos minimizes exposure to personal data.

Despite inherent risks, online dating remains a tool millions use to build meaningful relationships. Authorities in Palm Beach County believe more victims linked to Hakim might be undiscovered. They encourage individuals with credible encounters to come forward.
