A former official from the Reagan administration is voicing concerns about what he calls a growing ‘red-green alliance’ between radical Islamists and far-left socialists. He warns that these unlikely ideological partners are uniting over a shared anti-American agenda.
Concerns about the ‘Red-Green Alliance’
Frank Gaffney, a former national security official, spoke with Fox News Digital about the influence of the Democratic Socialists of America. He expressed fears about their intentions and potential threats to U.S. national security. According to Gaffney, the Sharia supremacists are pursuing an agenda akin to ‘communism with a God,’ using religion as a cover. He believes they are unified in their totalitarian goals, despite having different end objectives.
“Fundamentally, they’re at the hip in totalitarianism. Yes, with different outcomes in mind, but still perfectly willing to make common cause for the immediate shared objective of destroying the United States, which stands in the way of either of their ambitions.” – Frank Gaffney
The ‘red-green alliance’ term describes cooperation between far-left groups, represented by red, and Islamist movements, represented by green.
Insights from Political Figures
This concept was discussed in a recent Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing titled “Hidden in Plain Sight: Confronting the Muslim Brotherhood Network in America.” Senator Ted Cruz questioned Kyle Shideler, a homeland security expert, about the potential partnership between the Muslim Brotherhood and groups like the Democratic Socialists of America.
“This threat cannot be ignored because it is politically inconvenient,” Cruz stated. “A counterterrorism expert testified that the Muslim Brotherhood and the DSA are united by a shared hatred of America — and a revolutionary objective to overthrow the U.S. Constitution.”
Gaffney agreed with these observations, noting that the two groups are willing to collaborate to achieve their immediate goal of undermining the United States.
Criticism and Analysis
Some Muslim critics of radical Islamism also scrutinize the ‘red-green alliance.’ Dalia Ziada, a Muslim scholar, told Fox News Digital that this alliance between the radical left and Islamists poses a threat to the U.S., American politics, and Western society as a whole.
“For five or seven years now, we have been seeing some kind of a ‘sinful marriage’ between the radical left and radical Islamism, the groups that hate Western liberal democracies and desire to destroy them,” Ziada explained.
An investigation by Fox News Digital discovered that around 425 organizations, including communist groups and anti-Israel activist coalitions, are part of a network that collectively raises about $1 billion annually.
