Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting incident in East Los Angeles where four individuals sustained gunshot wounds. The incident followed the Mexico-England World Cup match on Sunday night.
The shooting occurred around 9:35 p.m. at Whittier Boulevard and Leonard Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. An argument escalated when one person drew a gun and fired, injuring two men, one woman, and a minor.
The two men targeted in the shooting were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. The woman and the minor, who were not the intended targets, encountered deputies at a different location before being transported to the hospital, also with non-life threatening injuries.
No additional details about the shooter were available as of Monday morning.
Fans had gathered in the streets to celebrate despite Mexico’s 3-2 loss to England, which resulted in their elimination from the tournament. The community is urged to assist with any information by contacting the Sheriff’s Department’s East L.A. station at (323) 264-4151.
