During his celebration, Reyna revealed that his wife is pregnant. After scoring the goal in the 98th minute, Reyna put the ball under his shirt and sucked his thumb, a common gesture among soccer players to announce a pregnancy.

“My wife’s pregnant,” Reyna shared after the game, reported by The Athletic. He added, “I’ve known for a couple months now, so I was waiting for the perfect time. This felt right.” His celebration marked the public revelation of the news, a surprise to fans and spectators.

Reyna’s parents, Claudio and Danielle, both former U.S. international soccer players, along with his wife Chloe, encouraged him to take more shots and “be a bit selfish at times.” This advice paid off, as Reyna’s goal was a defining moment for the U.S. team in their World Cup opener.

The goal itself was a natural outcome for Reyna. “These questions are always hard for me,” he mentioned. “Honestly, when I’m playing, I’m not really thinking. I’m just doing whatever feels natural. I was in a good area, got a good pass, and saw the angle, far post.”

Following Reyna’s goal, U.S. head coach Mauricio Pochettino energetically joined in the celebration by running off the sideline. The U.S. team aims to continue its successful start in the World Cup against Australia next Friday at 3 p.m. ET.
