Gotham FC Announces Move to Etihad Park in Queens

Gotham FC’s club governor, Carolyn Tisch Blodgett, announced that the women’s soccer team will relocate its home games from New Jersey to Etihad Park in Queens, New York City. Tisch Blodgett stated, “there’s no better sports stage than New York City.” This decision aligns with the team’s vision to become one of the leading sports teams globally.

Gotham FC, champions of the National Women’s Soccer League in 2023 and 2025, aims to create an off-field experience that reflects its on-field success. Tisch Blodgett emphasized that this is an opportunity to enhance the match-day experience to mirror the team’s aspirations.

The new stadium in Willets Point, Queens, is expected to open by the 2028 season. This will replace their current arrangement at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey, which they share with the MLS team New York Red Bulls.

While the move is significant, the club has plans to establish a dedicated training facility in Whippany, New Jersey. Tisch Blodgett remarked on the importance of creating a permanent home for the team: “For so long, Gotham, like so many women’s teams, we’re always in borrowed spaces. We are always a tenant.”

The planned facilities aim to provide both a “best-in-class training facility in New Jersey and a best-in-class home gameday experience at Etihad Park in New York.”

Tisch Blodgett expressed the excitement shared by the team and staff: “Of all of the people we’ve gotten the chance to tell about this news, probably the most special was telling the players.” She highlighted how players have endured challenges over the years, playing in venues with limited capacity and shared facilities.

Having their own custom-designed locker rooms and training facilities represents a significant milestone for the players, according to Tisch Blodgett.

In a joint statement, New York City FC and Gotham FC commented that the move to Queens is “a defining moment in Gotham FC’s evolution.” The new environment will provide supporters with a world-class experience.
