Investigation Launched into New Jersey Woman’s Fatal Stabbing

Authorities in New Jersey are investigating the fatal stabbing of a woman in her Somerville home. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office identified the victim as Alyne Espinal, 46. She was found with multiple stab wounds to her chest, neck, and thigh and was declared dead at the scene.

Her husband, Ignacio Espinal, 55, was apprehended in West New York, New Jersey. He faces charges of first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and third-degree hindering in connection to his wife’s death.

Investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to piece together the events leading to the crime.

Authorities responded to a 911 call on Thursday before 7:30 p.m. about a welfare concern for a woman living on Brookside Avenue. Alyne Espinal was found dead inside a Somerville apartment with multiple stab wounds.

This tragic incident occurred approximately 20 minutes from Chester, where Brooke Hanlon, a new mother, was found murdered inside her home in June. Despite ongoing investigations, the mystery surrounding Hanlon’s death persists.

On June 6, Brooke Hanlon was found stabbed to death in her New Jersey home, which prompted a homicide investigation by local authorities. Two months later, Alyne Espinal was discovered dead just 15 miles away in Somerset County.

In contrast to the unresolved Morris County case involving Hanlon, authorities quickly identified a suspect in the Somerset County homicide. A few days after Espinal’s body was discovered, Ignacio Espinal was arrested.

Coincidentally, Conor Hanlon, the husband of the late Brooke Hanlon, previously worked for a construction contractor in Somerville. His place of employment was less than a mile from the site of this recent stabbing. Though Conor Hanlon has no accusations against him, the proximity of these events remains noteworthy.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office continues to investigate the incident. They are conducting witness interviews and examining both physical and electronic records. Forensic evidence is also under review to provide further insights into the fatal incident.
