Jake Altman Warns of Radical Influence Within Democratic Socialists of America
Former Democratic Socialists of America member Jake Altman shared concerns about the organization on Saturday. He suggested that communists have gained influence within the DSA. He warned that similar tactics push the Democratic Party further left.
Altman, speaking to Fox News, said the DSA has faced internal resistance to anti-communism, even among its moderate members. He described this trend as dangerous for the organization.
“Their organization has been captured…” Altman told Fox News.
Altman elaborated on these views during the “Saturday in America” segment. He argued the DSA is not harmless and claimed its members include Maoists, Trotskyists, and Leninists who aim to dismantle American institutions.
Altman expressed concern about these groups’ willingness to embrace violence. He pointed to this as troubling amid ongoing national challenges.
DSA Members in the Spotlight
Democratic socialists like Darializa Avila Chevalier, Claire Valdez, and Brad Lander have gained attention in New York for their political support.
Nearly a decade ago, Altman participated in a debate representing the DSA. He questioned his fit with the organization’s direction at the time, citing radical influences clustering around “Jacobin” magazine.
He specifically recalled debating with Leninists who argued Bernie Sanders was not a true socialist. This sentiment now echoes within DSA ranks, questioning the socialist credentials of Sanders and AOC.
Altman criticized the DSA’s leadership, labeling it as housing various extremist caucuses.
He urged Democrats to resist the DSA’s radicalized base. Altman foresees DSA candidates winning more elections nationwide, yet he cautioned that their intentions might not be in good faith.
Altman stated the DSA aims to undermine moderate and progressive Democrats to gain power.
