Jared Isaacman’s Controversial Flyover in D.C.

NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman led a controversial aerial display over Washington, D.C., on a recent Saturday. Despite safety concerns from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Isaacman flew private military jets over the city, with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche as a passenger.

JDI Holdings, Isaacman’s private jet company, sought permission for the flyover. The request included four Northrop F-5 Tiger II aircraft, part of Isaacman’s private fleet. According to publicly released documents, NASA and the White House sponsored the petition. However, the FAA denied this request on June 30, citing the F-5 aircraft as ‘very high-risk’ to fly over densely populated areas due to a lack of emergency landing zones. The decision highlighted that a single system failure could render the aircraft uncontrollable.

Despite the FAA’s refusal, Isaacman moved forward with the air display. NASA circumvented the review restrictions by transferring the aircraft from private to public use, allowing the demonstration to proceed. The FAA explained that once transferred to NASA, the aircraft became ‘public use,’ placing operational responsibility on NASA.

During the event, Todd Blanche and Jared Isaacman were pictured together, celebrating the flyover. Although Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy’s involvement was minimal, as high-level political appointees do not partake in such detailed processes, his department oversees the FAA.

Initial plans included flight participation by Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino and former Trump 2024 campaign manager Chris LaCivita; however, these plans were eventually canceled. Blanche shared his experience positively, expressing his honor in participating alongside Isaacman.

The White House expressed gratitude for NASA’s role in the event, highlighting the successful air show, record-breaking fireworks display, and President Trump’s impactful speech, marking a memorable celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday.
