Vice President JD Vance spoke about his return to Christianity, which eventually led him to embrace the Catholic faith. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Vance shared his journey away from focusing solely on academic and financial achievements toward finding spiritual depth. His reflections are captured in his new memoir, “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith.”
Vance highlighted how the Christians he encountered displayed kindness and grace, qualities he admired and sought for himself. “I was surrounded by Christians whose lives were rich in purpose, regardless of their socioeconomic status,” Vance noted as the memoir launched. His personal journey took him from a Protestant upbringing, through atheism, to the Catholic Church.
As Vance is viewed as a strong potential candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 2028, his narratives of faith have garnered significant attention. He recalled feeling at home within Catholic communities where joy and character seemed deeply connected to faith. “People in the Catholic Church influenced me greatly,” Vance said, emphasizing how God can guide individuals through the influence of others.
Usha Vance, his wife, plays a significant role in their family’s faith practices. Despite her Hindu beliefs, Usha has been supportive of Vance’s Catholic practices and actively participates in their family’s church activities. This collaborative family dynamic is central to their household.
Vance mentioned his ongoing hope that Usha might one day embrace Christianity, sparked by similar experiences he found in church. He believes the shared religious practices help nurture their bond and family values.
Recent statements by Vance about his wife’s faith drew criticism from some political figures, including Illinois Democratic representative Raja Krishnamoorthi. In response, Vance defended his desire for shared faith within his family, viewing it as common sense.
Despite differences in religious practices, Vance emphasized that their family life remains anchored in spirituality. Usha’s involvement in his faith journey has been profound, adding to the richness of their shared experiences.
