Jorge Messi, father of renowned footballer Lionel Messi, has passed away at the age of 68. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) confirmed this sad news. The Messi family had previously disclosed that Jorge was experiencing health issues and was receiving medical attention. On June 18, during the World Cup, Lionel Messi was visibly emotional after scoring his first goal in a 3-0 victory for Argentina against Algeria. He stated that his reaction was due to experiencing some challenging and complicated days.

Jorge Messi played a pivotal role in Lionel’s career, acting as his agent and business manager. Although many advisors came and went from Messi’s team, Jorge remained a constant presence, closely linked with his son, sharing a unique bond and understanding.

When Lionel was 13, he required treatment for a hormone condition affecting his growth, which the family could not financially support. In September 2000, Jorge and Lionel traveled to Spain for a trial at FC Barcelona, and three months later, in December, a contract was famously agreed upon with Barcelona director Charly Rexach, etched on a napkin in the presence of advisors Josep Maria Minguella and Horacio Gaggioli.
