Comedian Kathy Griffin has clarified the authenticity of an old image circulating of herself and President Donald Trump. The image, shared widely, is not an AI photo, Griffin confirmed in a video released on her YouTube channel.
In the video, Griffin explained that people have been questioning the reality of the image. She described Trump as “someone I used to know, but now I don’t care to know any longer.” Despite recent criticisms of Trump, Griffin admitted the photo reflected a period when she had a friendly relationship with him.
Griffin recalled how Trump would frequently be present at events during the 2000s and noted her interaction with him as being light-hearted. “I know, can you f—ing believe it?” she exclaimed in the video. She detailed how Trump would attend numerous events, stating, “He’d laugh at my jokes. I’m not glorifying him in his last, final days in any way.” She emphasized that the image is proof of them knowing each other and that she still fits in the dress she wore at the time.
The comedian also mentioned an image featuring herself, Trump, and Suze Orman, highlighting the cultural context of the 2000s. Griffin acknowledged frequent encounters with Trump at events and highlighted the pervasive nature of such gatherings.
In a separate matter, Griffin has been known for her controversial past actions involving Trump. In 2017, Griffin faced widespread backlash from both political sides for posting an image of herself with a mask resembling Trump’s severed head. This incident led to an investigation by the Secret Service to ascertain if the image posed a threat to the president.
Although Griffin initially apologized for the image, she has since retracted the apology. She has expressed pride in the controversial act, describing it as satire. “People still define me by it. Now, I really own it, and I absolutely lean into it, because I was right, and I was ahead of my time,” Griffin stated in an interview.
The Fox News Digital team reached out to the White House for comments regarding the situation. Griffin’s statements continue to spark discussions among the public and her fans.
