L.A. Police Respond to Major Street Takeover, Impound Cars
The Los Angeles Police Department, with the cooperation of several other agencies, responded early Saturday to a significant illegal street takeover in the Harbor Gateway area near Gardena. Numerous cars clogged the streets around South Figueroa Street and West Alondra Boulevard.
Police informed OnScene.TV that they had towed approximately 160 vehicles and made numerous arrests. Furthermore, they discovered six firearms during the operation. In his statement to OnScene.TV, Councilmember Tim McOsker, whose district encompasses Harbor Gateway, noted that officers impounded vehicles and processed the drivers. Other participants received citations. Children found at the event were taken to a nearby station, allowing their parents to pick them up later.
McOsker described that around 3 a.m., the police encircled the intersection to prevent any escape attempts by those present. He emphasized the area’s reputation for frequent street takeovers, especially during summer weekends. With it being the first night of Labor Day weekend, the LAPD was prepared for such events.
Law enforcement vehicles effectively blocked the intersection, according to the councilmember. Footage from OnScene.TV showed agents from Homeland Security Investigations, part of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, present at the scene. However, when asked about their role, McOsker admitted he was unaware of their involvement, stating, “This was a local police operation to stop street takeovers.”
