In Spain, like most individuals, Yamal, who turned 19 recently, possesses two surnames – Nasraoui from his father and Ebana from his mother. Yet, his professional identity follows the convention of many Spanish footballers, such as Xavi and Pedri, as he is publicly known by his first name. Ebana was only 16 when she had Yamal, and both parents leaned heavily on financial assistance from their friends during challenging times.
It is said two family friends named Lamine and Yamal offered significant help. As a mark of gratitude, the parents named their son Lamine Yamal Nasraoui Ebana.
The little boy witnessed rapid developments since—including being photographed with Lionel Messi as a baby. At 12 years old, he left his home near the Catalan coast, joining Barcelona’s La Masia academy. Yamal has achieved success in La Liga with Barcelona and the 2024 European Championship with Spain. My dad had to search for ways, sometimes scavenging items from the streets to bring us food. This, to me, is true pressure, not what I have in football.” His ‘304’ goal celebration commemorates Rocafonda’s postcode, and he frequently acknowledges his parents’ sacrifices in media interviews.
The identities of the benefactors remain undisclosed. Neither Yamal nor his parents have detailed the friends’ relationships or support. The benefactors’ reasons for remaining anonymous are unknown.
